History of the Ancient World

From the first cities of Sumer and Egypt to Philo’s Alexandria in 1 CE: the peoples, empires and ideas of the ancient world, told by Sophia with Philo, Marcos and Demetria, in volumes of lessons and gamebooks with grammar at every level.

← Back to Lessons and Gamebooks

Every volume follows the same rules: it labels what scholars agree on, what they debate and what nobody knows, and asks the same questions of every people’s texts. The story stops in 1 CE, Philo’s own time. Later volumes will travel further, to India, China, Africa and the Americas, and a second series will continue the story after 1 CE. For the writers who first told this history, see the Ancient Historians.
